Windows Phone 7 Developer Preview Devices in the Wild

July 19th, 2010 by Brandon Watson

The first previews of Windows Phone 7 are starting to hit, and they all feel fair and balanced, which is always appreciated. Engadget certainly goes in depth on their preview, as does PC Mag.  However, it was this unboxing video which made me smile the most, if for no other reason than it was the box I designed with the help of a fellow Liverpool Football supporter.  He’s really the brains behind the operation.  My contribution can be seen at around 2:30 of the video.  OK, off to our global sales summit to spend some quality time with our field sales team members, and spread the word on Windows Phone 7.

When was it decided there wasnt going to be external storage at launch? that's news to me
  • Ditto on the "when will we know if we are/aren't getting a developer phone" question.
  • Robert Firth
So it was your idea to put "developers, developers, developers"! That was a great idea.
  • When/how will those getting phones know they are (or are not) getting them? Just want to know so I can plan accordingly.

    Thanks,

    Same here.
We have been waiting for a +ve news, and a developer device at this stage is indeed very crucial for us... getting to know would certainly be very helpful.

So, we are left in the wild, without a device, and without any communication...

I am sure there'd be many sharing this melancholy and disappointment...

Is there ANY clarity about the road ahead? Can we buy devices on our own in the future? Is there going to be a 2nd wave?

May the 'not good enoughs' have some answers, please?
  • Sorry that you are melancholy. The first set of devices have gone out, but it won't be just one shipment. They are going to be going out in stages. The logistics of flashing, packaging, etc requires that we do this in bulk. So there will be several more rounds of phones shipped off to developers in the coming weeks/months. You will be contacted if one is coming. However, it really helps to have a relationship with your local field evangelist. If you don't know who that is, send me an email [brwatson (at) microsoft] and I can get you connected.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I have sent you the mail.
